Due to lack of a choice, I have comcast internet connection. Sometimes they are slow. Sometimes there is no connection (it just comes on and off).

So today, I turned on my computer in the morning, and there is no internet. I looked at the "local connection" window, it is not connected to the internet.

After an almost two hour talk with the Comcast people, here is my conclusion and steps to DIY solution.

1. Hit the reset buttom in the back for 2 sec. Wait until all the lights are on (for me it was power/ DS/US/online). See if the connection re-established itself. If not, restart the computer. Check for connection.

2. If the first step does not work, take out the battery and disconnect the power to the modem for at least 30 sec. Put the battery back in and reconnect the power. Wait until all the lights are on (for me it was power/ DS/US/online). See if the connection re-established itself. If not, restart the computer. Check for connection.

3. If the previous step does not work, turn off your computer. Unplug the ethernet cord in both the computer and the modem. . Hit the reset buttom in the back for 2 sec. Wait until all the lights are on (for me it was power/ DS/US/online). Then plug the ethernet cord to the modem first then to the computer. Turn on the computer and check for connection.

4. If the previous step does not work, call Comcast then.

 

**The link button only blinks when there is communication between the modem and the computer.
